Drake - God's Plan

Yeah they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'
They wishin' on me, yuh
I been movin' calm, don't start no trouble with me
Tryna keep it peaceful is a struggle for me
Don't pull up at 6 AM to cuddle with me
You know how I like it when you lovin' on me
I don't wanna die for them to miss me
Yes I see the things that they wishin' on me
Hope I got some brothers that outlive me
They gon' tell the story, shit was different with me
God's plan, God's plan
I hold back, sometimes I won't, yuh
I feel good, sometimes I don't, ayy, don't
I finessed down Weston Road, ayy, 'nessed
Might go down a G-O-D, yeah, wait
I go hard on Southside G, yuh, Way
I make sure that north side eat
And still

Bad things
It's a lot of bad things
That they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'
They wishin' on me
Bad things
It's a lot of bad things
That they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'
They wishin' on me
Yuh, ayy, ayy (ayy)
She say, "Do you love me?" I tell her, "Only partly"
I only love my bed and my momma, I'm sorry
Fifty Dub, I even got it tatted on me
81, they'll bring the crashers to the party
And you know me
Turn a O-2 into the O-3, dog
Without 40, Oli', there'd be no me
'Magine if I never met the broskis
God's plan, God's plan
I can't do this on my own, ayy, no, ayy
Someone watchin' this shit close, yep, close
I've been me since Scarlett Road, ayy, road, ayy
Might go down as G-O-D, yeah, wait
I go hard on Southside G, ayy, Way
I make sure that north side eat, yuh
And still
Bad things
It's a lot of bad things
That they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'
They wishin' on me
Yeah, yeah
Bad things
It's a lot of bad things
That they wishin' and wishin' and wishin' and wishin'
They wishin' on me
Yeah

1. There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals

The whole song lyrics is about helping others and making sure everyone is doing well and have food to eat. The music video, like he states at the start the whole budget that he had for the video he gave it away (just under $1,000,000) to kids for college fees or families that needed help, even allowing people to buy whatever they want in the shop and he would pay. The tone and mood between the whole video and lyrics match as there is a clear joy and excitement in the music video as well as in the lyrics.  Another relationship between the lyrics and visuals is when drake says 'make sure that north side eat' whilst also giving money to a family that could have finical problems - this links to him caring about others and making sure that they have money and food.

Also there is a link with the title of the song 'God's Plan' and visuals, as in the video you can see that Drake is helping others and making sure they are doing well and they are safe and that could also relate to the fact that god wants the best for people and wants them to be safe and healthy.

2. There is a relationship between the music and visuals, with the visual illustrating, amplifying or contradicting the lyrics.

Throughout the whole song there is some relationship between the music and visual, it might not be all the time but there is some points. For example the dance is to beat, when drake dances on the roof each of his movements are in beat to the song. Also any transitions in the video that aren't dances are also in sync with the song and happen on beat to make a better effect to the viewer as that would be more appealing and better to watch for the audience. I do think that the visuals and the way the transitions happen on beat and same with the dancing, it amplifies the lyrics as I think it makes it more appealing to the audience and makes certain lyrics stand out more and have more of an impact on the audience. The transitions change almost all the way through the song on beat, whereas there isn't a lot of dancing as the video is more to show the generosity from Drake's side and him giving back to the people, but either way the transition that do happen are nice and effective and create a nice effect.

3.Genres are complex and diverse in terms of music video style and iconography.

This songs genre is a mixture between pop and rap as that is a common theme with Drake and his music, these are the genres he usually sticks too. In my onion this music video doesn't cover all aspects of a normal pop/rap music video as the majority of the video is him giving back and not him actually singing/rapping/dancing. The video does follow a narrative as it has a constant setting and characters and the story it is trying to tell is the information we got given at the start that the budget they had for the music video they 'gave it all away'. It is also a really unique music video as I'm pretty sure no one has done something like this before where they have given out to the public so much things and gave people so many new opportunities.

4. Record companies will demand close up of the stars/performers.

In this music video, Drake features in it all the way through and there is a lot of close ups of him being that him dancing or him with other people and surprising them. The only time you don't see a glimpse of Drake is right at the start of the video and you don't see him for about 30 seconds, you first see some Afroamerican people dancing and talking you then get a glimpse of Drake for about a 2-3 seconds and then don't see anything about him for another 20/30 seconds. All the way through that though Drake is the main person focused on, mainly because he is the only one featured on the song so there is no other artists in the song performing with him. Towards the end of the song we get go back to the same Afroamerican people we saw at the start but this time they are shouting and talking to the camera.

5. Voyeurism

Throughout the music video, there is moments of voyeurism. Defined as 'the practise of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviour', we see a couple of scenarios throughout the music video that could be classified as that. The whole music video in fairness is a giving back to the community, giving people thousands of dollars and paying for their courses, Drake might of wanted to have it all on camera, but it also is a really private thing that a normal person wouldn't want to have on camera. An example of this could be when Drake gives a family huge amount of money on the beach, giving back to someone is a private thing and usually you wouldn't want to film it or put out to the public.

6. There is likely to be intertextuality references to other videos, TV shows, Books, Movies

With this song, there is no intertextual reference to any other videos, TV shows, Books or even movies. This song is a one off and there is nothing similar to it, this is a popular thing done by Drake that all his songs are unique and different from everything else and there is nothing similar to it or even closely the same that you could even compare. This is one of the main reasons why his songs do so well and get so many views and that is also why he is such a huge artist is because he is different and does everything differently to the point where he is the only one that has done something like this.
